Why Did the Founders Trust Counties More Than Distant Government?
The American Republic did not begin in Washington, D.C.
It began in communities.
It began in counties.
It began where citizens governed themselves, elected trusted local leaders, served their neighbors on juries, protected their families, and expected government to remain close enough to answer to the people.
That was not an accident.
It was the design.
Questions Worth Asking
- Why were counties so important to the Founders?
- Why wasn't America intended to be governed primarily from the national capital?
- Why were sheriffs elected by the people rather than appointed from Washington?
- Why were local juries considered essential to liberty?
- Why were neighbors expected to solve many of their own problems?
- Why was government designed to remain close to the people?
- Has distance between government and the citizen changed the relationship?
- If liberty once flourished locally, could it flourish locally again?
- Could one county become an example for every other county in America?
- If constitutional restoration is possible, where else would it begin?
One County Can Change Everything
History is often changed by a small number of courageous people who simply refuse to forget first principles.
- What if one county faithfully returned to constitutional government?
- What if one sheriff understood his constitutional duty?
- What if one governor remembered why the office exists?
- Would neighboring counties notice?
- Would other states begin asking the same questions?
- Could restoration spread the same way liberty was originally preserved one community at a time?
Perhaps We Have Been Looking in the Wrong Place
For generations Americans have looked toward Washington for answers. Every election promises change. Every administration promises reform. Yet government continues to grow while many citizens increasingly sense that liberty continues to shrink.
The Republic was never intended to be restored from the top down.
The Republic was to be preserved from the bottom up.
